For bilingual households that want extensive Spanish-language programming, YouTube TV's Spanish Plan provides far more channels. For households that only need Univision, Hulu's base plan includes it in many markets without extra cost.

What Happens When You Travel

Both services use location verification to determine which local channels you receive. When you travel within the US, you may temporarily receive local channels from your current location while retaining access to your home market for a limited period.

YouTube TV requires you to verify your home area every 3 months by physically being at your registered home address. If you do not verify, you may lose access to home market local channels. This can be an issue for snowbirds, frequent travelers, or people who split time between two cities.

Hulu has similar location requirements. Neither service works outside the United States.

Local Channels FAQ

Do both services carry ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC?
Yes. Both Hulu + Live TV and YouTube TV carry ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC in most US markets. These are your local affiliate stations that broadcast NFL games, evening news, network primetime shows, and local news. Coverage is market-dependent: major metropolitan areas have all four, while smaller or rural markets may be missing one or two. Always check availability for your zip code before subscribing.
Does Hulu + Live TV have PBS?
No. Hulu + Live TV does not carry PBS stations. YouTube TV does carry PBS in most markets. If PBS programming (Sesame Street, Nova, Frontline, PBS NewsHour, Masterpiece) is important to your household, YouTube TV is the only option between these two services. Alternatively, PBS content is available free through the PBS app and website.
How do I check which local channels are available in my area?
For YouTube TV, visit tv.youtube.com/welcome and enter your zip code to see available local channels. For Hulu + Live TV, start the sign-up process and enter your zip code to see channel availability. Both services provide this information before you need to enter payment details.
What happens to my local channels when I travel?
Both services use location verification. YouTube TV checks your location periodically and requires you to verify your home area every 3 months by physically being at your registered home address. When you travel within the US, you may receive different local channels based on your current location but keep your home market channels for a limited time. Hulu has similar location requirements.
